Higher education in North Macedonia is provided by colleges and pedagogical academies offering two-year courses, and by universities with four to six-year programs across various disciplines. Upon successful completion, students receive diplomas with professional titles like Engineer, Lawyer, or Teacher, at both lower (college) and higher (faculty/institute) levels. The duration of studies for higher-level diplomas varies by faculty type.

The Law on Higher Education of 1997 mandated the introduction of five-year university programs, and reforms are underway to align Macedonian higher education with international standards. The academic year typically begins in October and concludes the following September. Classes are primarily taught in Macedonian, Albanian, and Turkish.
