BAdmin (Public Management) is a three-year full-time study programme that undertakes a scientific study of the managerial and administrative functions performed in the public sector. It further aims to capacitate students to participate in and contribute to managerial issues such as policy-making, human resource management, organisational restructuring and ensuring accountability.
The degree programme requires that a dissertation/mini-dissertation must be submitted on a field of study chosen from the fields covered for the honours degree provided that the Dean may on the recommendation of the head of department concerned approve the replacement of the required dissertation by the successful completion of a prescribed number of module credits and a mini-dissertation.
This programme is directed towards the study of Public Administration that will equip the candidate for a career in the broad public sector. Candidates will gain in-depth knowledge of certain administrative and management practices in the South African and international public sectors.
The SPMA offers the MAdmin and MPhil (Public Policy) research-focused degrees for students who have successfully completed an honours degree in Public Administration, or Public Management.
