The education obtained within this study programme also comprises a training and attestation for scientific work.
The study aims at providing sound theoretical and experimental knowledge of classical and modern problems in condensed matter physics, and at preparing the student for a professional career in this area. The student gets a general education in experimental and theoretical physics of condensed matter. He/she becomes acquainted with the structure of crystals, metals, semiconductors and insulators and with their defects. He/she goes through a systematic education in microscopic models of electronic and vibronic structure. Special courses cover the bulk semiconductor and superconductor materials, as well as thin-film and low-dimensional quantum structures. The student becomes acquainted with basic technologies of crystal growth and thin film deposition. Courses covering analytical methods are focused on X-ray structure analysis, measurements of electrical properties, optical spectroscopy and ellipsometry in a wide spectral range from the far infrared to the ultraviolet.
