For the seventh consecutive year, the program brings together for 2 weeks around 40-50 participants from diverse legal backgrounds, i.e. law students near completion of their law degree, law graduates and legal professionals, advanced students or practitioners in other connected disciplines with special interest and expertise in EU law, who are seeking further credentials and experience in the field. It may be particularly appealing to government officials and those aiming at a career in national, international and/or European civil service and those who wish to apply for jobs in the field of European Union law.
Combining theoretical and practical perspectives, the program prepares students to make an impact in national, regional and international human rights protection. An internship program with local NGOs, a course at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg and the Vienna Human Rights Model United Nations Conference offer unique experience-based learning opportunities.
This advanced course is about the practice of European Union Law. Participants receive hands-on insider analysis about the functioning of the European Union. The program is designed to combine seminars on different topics as well as workshops supporting the issues addressed in these seminars or some aspects thereof. The Total LawTM method constitutes the backbone of the program and gives it its exceptional flavor. Developed by the Jean Monnet Center at the New York University School of Law, it relies on contextualization: situating a legal controversy, a court decision, a Treaty provision, a Directive or a Regulation in the broader context.
With the Master of Legal Studies in European Business Law, which is taught in English, the WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business) offers a part-time program for current and potential executives without a law degree who work in a wide range of industries and/or the service sector.
This course aims to explore the often tense intersection between drug policy and human rights. Taking place within the broader context of the UN drug control system, discussion will focus on the identification and understanding of relevant international human rights agreements and on the evaluation and assessment of the gap between rights and practice in the implementation of drug policies in many countries and regions. Including examination of both `consumer´ and `supply´ side issues, the focus of the course will be global and participants will be drawn from all regions internationally.
