The University of Manchester
This programme concentrates on the economic, political and social development of a range of different societies since 1500. Key subjects are the political history of Europe and other parts of the world, the impacts of industrialisation, and social change. The Year 3 dissertation is a piece of major study involving independent research. Students take one course in Economics in each year.

Combined Studies offers you a degree which allows you to study course units from Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and some Sciences. The BA History course offered at The University of Manchester will give you the opportunity to tailor your degree to suit your own interests while learning from one of the largest concentrations of historians in Britain.
Classics and Ancient History offers the chance to combine the study of Greek and Latin language, literature and culture with the examination of important aspects of Greek and Roman political, social and intellectual history. All students take either Greek or Latin language for three years, and may begin this at University. Students can also take related specialist courses from a range including religion, philosophy, art, archaeology, and modern history. There is a wide range of styles of teaching, including lectures, seminars, small-group tutorials and virtual seminars via the web.
The PhD is a three-year course of study (or six years of part-time study) in which the student prepares a thesis under the guidance of two supervisors with specialist expertise. The student's progress is monitored at regular meetings of the student's research panel.
