Music Theories
Hacettepe University
The basic philosophy of Department of Music Theories is to provide music theorists with the ability of examining areas of Turkish Music Theory and Western Music Theory through a "holistic" perspective. Master of Science Program (with thesis) in Music Theories is also grounded on the same approach. In this context, both in relation to Turkish Music Theory and Western Music Theory; a curriculum which is classified under the titles of sound systems, sound organization, analysis, and history of theory is created.
Masters Programme for Department of Musicology started education in 1994 with the name of “Masters Programme for Ethnomusicology and Folklore”, under Hacettepe University, Institute of Social Sciences and first students were graduated in 1998.
With the statutory decree no: 41,issued in 1982 and the Law no: 2809, replacing that in 1983, Ankara State Conservatory was taken to the scope of YÖK (HEI) (within Hacettepe University) with all higher education institutions. Within the university process, postgraduate programs towards training instructor was started to open as of early 1990's.
The Opera Department Master Degree Programme of Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory started in 1998 and was incorporated in the Institute of Fine Arts in fall 2012.
Department of Guitar established by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kanneci in 2005-2006 academic year. He is the head of the department since then. The department includes graduate and undergraduate programmes. Both of them carried out by modern methods and techniques.
