The
Porto Summer School on Cinematic Art presents itself as a state-of-the-art week
with the participation of renowned artists and filmmakers working on contemporary
cinema and/or contemporary art. Its main goal is to gather, in the city of
Porto, and during a week, a privileged 15 participants with artists, filmmakers
and critics, scholars and curators.
The Master degree in Sound and Image is a 2 year cycle of studies comprising 120 ECTS. During this cycle, students must attend to classes, seminars, undertake a major project, a guided internship and finally develop a dissertation of scientific nature depending on the fields of study.
On the other hand, in response to the changes that are now taking place in the European higher education system, all undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from the Portuguese Catholic University comply with the Bologna Process. Since the academic year of 2006/2007, the master degree in sound and image is structured in four specialization areas:
• Computer Animation
• Digital Arts
• Sound Design
• Television and Screenwriting
This is a joint program between the University of Porto and The New University of Lisbon. with the support of the University of Texas at Austin, aiming at specialized training in digital media.
To apply at one of these universities, you may need a proof of English proficiency. There are several standardised English tests that you can take to proof your English level, such as the PTE (Pearson Test of English), TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), CAE (Cambridge Advanced English) and IELTS (International English Language Testing System), offered by British Council and IDP. Film, Photography, and Media degrees teach students about the historical, philosophical, and critical aspects of movies, and the art of taking and editing digital and analogue photographs. Media degrees analyse how these art forms influence our social and cultural lives, as well as the technical aspects behind the creation of photos and films. Media courses focus on Digital Filmmaking and Photography, Screenwriting, and Communication.
