Our English program is open for students from all faculties. It is possible to start in the fall or in the spring and to take any number and combination of modules or the entire year course. Several of the modules improve your practical skills, some widen your intercultural horizon, and in others you gain a deeper understanding of literature and culture. Most modules are taught in Alta, some abroad.
The Master in English Acquisition and Multilingualism at UIT the Arctic University of Norway is well suited for students who are interested in studying how English is acquired in first and second language settings, as well as how the English language is affected by multilingual situations.
The English Linguistics programme offered by UIT the Arctic University of Norway places special emphasis on the formal aspects of grammar, in particular syntax and phonology. The course Norwegian for Foreign Students, level 1-3 does not require any previous knowledge of Norwegian. On level 1, English will be used as a support language. However, this is a rapid progress course, and attendance at the classes is compulsory. The course is designed for full-time students, in other words: the students have to be prepared to study intensively and continuously additional to the lectures given at the University College.
To apply at one of these universities, you may need a proof of English proficiency. There are several standardised English tests that you can take to proof your English level, such as the PTE (Pearson Test of English), TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), CAE (Cambridge Advanced English) and IELTS (International English Language Testing System), offered by British Council and IDP.
