The students are taught to understand classification and principles of surface analysis methods, emission methods, ion spectroscopies, to understand atomic collisions and Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy, regularities of interaction of electrons with solids, to apply Auger electron spectroscopy, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy in the analysis of solids. The students are introduced to the principles of scanning tunneling and atomic force microscopy.
