Background of Malta

The Maltese islands offer a unique cultural blend of ancient and modern influences. While home to one of the Mediterranean's oldest universities, its higher education system is future-oriented, combining tradition with innovation. Due to the island's size, Malta has one university and one vocational college, both enjoying good international reputations.

Each year, about 600 full-time international students and 500 exchange students from approximately 80 countries come to Malta. To study in English at one of the universities in Malta you may need proof of English proficiency. There are several standardised English tests that you can take to prove your English level, such as the PTE (Pearson Test of English), TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), CAE (Cambridge Advanced English) and IELTS (International English Language Testing System), offered by British Council and IDP.
